The Services I Offer

Comprehensive Chimney Cleaning:
I use modern power sweeping tools alongside a HEPA-rated hazardous waste vacuum — the same type used in environments where asbestos is removed. It’s built to handle fine, dangerous dust, making sure nothing escapes back into your home. Every sweep includes thorough removal of soot, ash, and creosote to prevent blockages and reduce fire risk.

Blockage Clearance:
Whether it’s a bird’s nest, fallen debris, or damp clumps of soot, I’ll get the chimney clear and breathing properly again. If you’ve had poor draw or smoke backing up, chances are something’s in the way — I’ll find it and remove it.

Chimney Sweep Certification:
Once your chimney’s been swept, you’ll receive a certificate confirming it’s been professionally cleaned and assessed. This is increasingly required by insurers, especially for properties using solid fuel.

Stove & Fireplace Health Check:
I check the condition of your stove or open fire while I’m there — firebricks, baffle plate, seals, and door fit. I’ll also advise on best burning practices to reduce build-up and keep things working efficiently.

Internal and External Chimney Checks:
I visually inspect the chimney terminal from ground level to check the condition of the pot, cowl, and stack. If I haven’t swept the liner before, I’ll normally use a chimney camera to check its condition from the inside — especially important when the flue’s history isn’t known, or if you’ve recently changed appliances or fuel type. It helps catch any hidden issues early and ensures I’m not sweeping blindly into a problem.

Animal Rescue:
I’m often called out to safely remove birds that have become trapped in chimneys—it's a common issue, and I’m always happy to help.

Useful Advice:
If you're missing a cowl, burning damp fuel, or running the stove too cool, I’ll let you know. I don’t charge extra for advice.

FAQs

Should Chimney Sweeping Be Done Annually?

Yes. Over time, soot, creosote, and debris can accumulate in your chimney, leading to serious hazards like chimney fires, dangerous carbon monoxide leaks, or inefficient stove performance. Annual chimney sweeps are essential to prevent these risks and ensure your fireplace or stove operates at its best, providing you with peace of mind and a clean, safe home environment.

Do you provide a certificate after sweeping?

Yes. I issue a full sweep certificate for every completed job. This is useful for insurance, landlord compliance, and peace of mind.

Quick Tip: Use a Stove Thermometer

Get yourself a stove pipe thermometer. If you're burning too cool, you're coating the flue in sticky tar that’s a nightmare to remove. Too hot, and you're burning through fuel unnecessarily. Stay in the “optimum” zone to save money and keep your chimney cleaner for longer.
